Library Director (Rank Open)

Position Description:

This is a full-time faculty position, beginning July 1, 2011. Salary is commensurate with experience and degree held at the time of appointment. The Director of the Library is the chief administrative officer of the library and is responsible for overall leadership and management, from strategic planning to daily operations. Will cultivate and promote library resources and services; develop and manage staff and budget; collaborate with University leadership, faculty, donors and other internal and external constituents. Expertise with regional accreditation processes, and identifying and implementing technologies are particularly valued.

Qualifications:

All candidates must have an ALA accredited MLS degree; superior candidates will also have an advanced degree in a field of study that complements the academic offerings of the University. Ideal candidates should have leadership and administrative accomplishment in an academic library, with skills in working effectively with faculty, students, staff and others in a collegial, disciplined environment. Experience implementing, migrating and expanding online catalogs and other technologies. Successful project management experience. Successful professional staff development and supervisory experience. Versed in collection development through gifting and purchase. Demonstrated commitment to education and service, including delivering instructional sessions. Familiarity with regional accreditation processes desirable. The applicant must be experientially and theologically committed to the Stone-Campbell faith tradition, and in full agreement with the school’s doctrinal statement.

Responsibilities:

Select books and other library resources for purchase or license • Negotiate agreements with vendors for electronic resources • Structure the library and technology staff to accomplish MACU mission and goals • Build communication among staff and between the library and MACU faculty and administrators • Provide for regular evaluation of the work of each staff member • Develop the skills and expertise of the staff through regular training opportunities • Provide a work environment that results in high staff morale and productivity • Collaborate with faculty on technology in teaching & learning • with faculty and librarians to provide support for distance education and library service to remote users • with faculty on integrating information literacy training into the curriculum • Teach information literacy, library instruction, and methodology course(s) • Provide training opportunities for faculty and librarians • Engage in research, writing, and professional activity that enables the University and the library to stay abreast of current trends in theological librarianship • Guide Library Web content and advise faculty and administration on Web content • Plan for and provide space conducive to the learning needs of users, the preservation and access needs of the physical and digital collections, and the workflow needs of the library staff •Oversee budgetary expenditures.
